What is a certified copy of a birth certificate?

And where do I get one? We want to go to Disney World on my son's birthday, and to get him in free that day we need a certified copy of his birth certificate. Where do I get one, and how much does it cost?

Thanks! What is a certified copy of a birth certificate?
You would contact the town or city hall in the town where he was born to get one. If you are living too far away to go there in person, you can call them and ask what would be needed to get one. You can also get one by contacting the bureau of vital statistics in the state where he was born, either online, by phone, or by mail.

A certified copy will have a seal. You may already have one if you had to show a birth certificate to get him into school or to get a SS card for him.

You can find the information to contact them by googling (your state) bureau of vital statistics
the hospital our your townhall records, it shouldnt cost anyhting or maybe a couple bucks

Its basically an official copy. You get it from the County office for whatever County your son was born in. County office is usually in the same building as the County courthouse, but it could be somewhere else. Should only cost like 5 dollars or less per copy. What is a certified copy of a birth certificate?
Go to the website of the city where your son was born and look for 'records'.

There is only ONE original copy of a birth certificate, the one that was filled out by the doctor and filed with the city. You can't get this--even Obama can't get it--so you get a 'certified copy', meaning someone in the office photocopies it and stamps it with one of those stamps that makes dimples in the paper, to show that this copy was made by the proper authorities. This is a certified copy.

Hope he enjoys Disney World!
