I need to find my great grandfathers birth certificate from Sicily, Italy, in the early 1900s. How easy is it to change a birth certificate issued in Hawaii?

Thomas Beattie (the pregnant man) managed to have his birth certificate changed. Can a birth certificate really be changed? Isn't it just amended with the amendment attached to the original?|||It depends on the state and the reason. How does birth certificate work in adoption?

so my mom had a baby and gave it up for adoption a long time ago straite out of the hospital and she had an open adoption, so she signed the birth certificate cause it didn't matter,

now what happens in a closed adoption. is it the biological parents who sign it or the adopted? my mom says she thinks the biological parents do, and its closed off. if thats the case what happens in the future when the child would need a birth certificate for identification purposes? do they close of the original certificate so the adoption actually stays closed and then just get a new one with adopted parents signatures, or do the adopted parents just sign it at the hospital|||The natural mother signs the birth certificate in the same way any other birth is recorded.

n the US when an adoption is finalized they take the original, accurate and truthful record of birth, seal it away from access by anyone (including the people it pertains to)

Then they issue a fake 'birth' certificate with false information (stating that the adoptive mother gave birth to the child and the adoptive father is the natural father) and call it an 'amended birth certificate'

This happens whether the adoption is open or closed, there's no difference under the (travesty of a) law.

In most civilized nations, the original birth certificate with true and accurate record of the birth remains intact and an adoption certificate is added.

The US system stems from a time when illegitimacy and unwed motherhood were shameful. Somehow the interpretation of these laws has become twisted and are now used against adoptees who wish to access the facts of THEIR origins.|||What H**** said applies in Canada in so far as the original birth certificate is amended to reflect the adoptive parents as the parents who gave birth. (why can't they just put "adoption BC" on it...and allow the original to be viewed by the adoptee at 18? I just don't get it)

Thankfully, records are opening up here...province by province.

I am SO thankful that we know our son's first mom's name and whereabouts (open adoption) because until I came on here...I had no clue how impactful getting that new birth certificate could be. Seriously, we just thought it was another piece of paper in the process of adoption.

I know...duh...but I am better now!|||It's completely different in the UK as the natural mother is required to register her baby's birth regardless of whether she raises or surrenders. It doesn't matter whether the adoption is closed or not and she will get a copy of the birth certificate. Unlike the States adoptees in the UK can apply for their OBC once they turn 18.|||the bio parents sign it and when the adoption is final, a new birth certificate is issued with new names.|||Depends where you are.|||Your mother signed the original birth certificate and when the adoption of her child (your sibling) was finalized, an amended birth certificate was issued...showing your sibling's adoptive mother as giving birth, when in fact she did not. Also many times the address on the ABC will not be the adoptee's place of birth, but rather the residence address of the adoptive parents at the time the adoption was finalized. Sometimes even the actual birth date is changed by a day or two upwards to a year and possibly a bit longer. The OBC is then sealed from all parties. Except in 6 (and a few more with restrictions) states where the adult adoptee can now gain access to his/her OBC. Your mother will not be allowed access to her child's original birth certificate. A legal document/vital statistic that was created when your mother was the ONLY LEGAL mother to her own child.

The Amended Birth Certificate protects the adoptive parents and was never to protect the natural mother nor the adopted child. The ABC gives the illusion 'as if born to'.

We adopted my daughter, her original certified birth certificate mentions nothing to that fact.

So, the answer is, no. Typically not.

A birth certificate is a legal document that simply states you were born. It doesn't necessarily give information about genetically based relationships. Only legal ones.|||There is no difference in my state so you won't be able to tell. Why do you believe so strongly that you are adopted? Your parents said no and showed you a copy of the birth certificate isn't that enough? There has to be more behind this question than what you are actually asking.|||You can always request for your sealed records be opened... depending on your state laws they may allow this and may not allow this... if you have sealed records then you might have been adopted. I am going through this very same dilemma and am trying to go through the court system to get my records opened.|||On the original there should be some kind of imprinted stamp on it.It's usually a circle with some raised printing in it.

Birth Certificate - Is there a difference between an original one and a certified one?

I'm going to getting myself a state ID in a day, and was reading up on the rquirments from the DMV. They say I need, and I quote a "certified birth certificate."

I have my original birth certificate (not a copy). Is this the same thing? If not, how do I go about getting a certified one and how long does it take?|||Usually when you get the copy of it, the place will stamp the paper (so it has the raised marks on it) to prove it's an original copy from them, and not a photocopy which could have been altered.|||Explanation:

Certified implies that they can verify that it is infact a legitimate birth certificate. With a photocopy of any official documents, it's hard to tell whether the document is legitimate or not (There's printing artifacts, the inevitable errors involved in the scan. The fact that it's fairly simple to make a fake with a simple image editing program).

I born in India and for immigration purposes, I need to submit an original or certified birth certificate. I do not want to give the original certificate, question is, how can certify my birth certificate? Please help me to solve it....|||The certified birth certificate is either the original copy or you can request one from the county and they will give a certified copy. What is the difference between a live birth certificate and a birth certificate?

Is there a difference between a live birth certificate and a birth certificate? I received a copy of a live birth cerfiticate from the maryland state of vital records, I need my sons birth cerfiticate to register him for school. I am wondering if theres a difference and if his school will take his live birth certificate?|||I don't know. It may simply be a matter of what states choose to call it. I'd never heard the term "live birth certificate" until recently.|||You have the right one. In some states the law requires issuance of a birth certificate for any still birth or miscarriage of a fetus weighing more than 500 grams or from a gestation period of more than 22 weeks. They also issue a death certificate in such cases. So, there is a distinction between the certificate issued for a live birth and one issued in cases of still birth and late-term miscarriages.

How can someone obtain their Birth Certificate after 62 years and never being registered only baptized?

My father was born at home in 1945 in a small Texas town. His mother gave him his Baptismal Certificate and social security card as a teenager and has had them since. He was never given a birth certificate and until now was able to get along with out it because he possessed the other two documents.

As my father is nearing the age of social security benefits, he began the paper work process. At this time he was asked to provide is birth certificate because the social security office shows his birth year as 1944 (which is incorrect) and his baptismal and driver's license both have his birth year at 1945. He never received his certified copy of his birth certificate so he followed to procedures in obtaining a new copy. When he contacted Austin Vital Records, he was told that they were unable to find his birth certificate. He then spoke with his older sister and she informed him that their (now deceased) parents did not register them at birth. What can he do?|||If you really can't get around having a birth certificate, you can get a judicial birth certificate.

This is where a judge in the town of his birth, reviews the baptismal certificate, social security card, selective service or tax records or anything else you can get, as well as notarized statements of witnesses, if any, and orders that the birth be recorded.

I have even done this for people who were born in Vietnam and could not return to testify. Even if he never had one before, it' seems to me that it should be possible to get one and that seems like the logical place to start.|||yes get a lawyer to get it done faster.

How is a "certificate of live birth" different than a "birth certificate"?

So, I just watched an infomercial paid for by "birthers."

They say that Obama has not produced his birth certificate but only produced a certificate of live birth. However, they don't say what the difference between a certificate of live birth and a birth certificate is.

What is the difference between a "birth certificate" and "certificate of live birth?"|||There isn't any difference. In Hawaii, there are 2 types of birth certificate. Both are legal and both are proof of birth. The first is a "certificate of live birth" and is produced at the time of the birth. The second is a "certification of live birth" and is a registered copy. President Obama provided a "certification of live birth".|||They are the same thing except for the fact a live certificate of birth is done at the time of said birth so if anything holds more weight then a birth certificate though a birth certificate has more info. Also the fact, the state of Hawaii while keeping certificates of live birth public, has NO ONES "birth certificate" available for public view, Obama included. Funny birthers

In Oklahoma, the laws are different from other states. In Connecticut, as in probably Hawaii, you don't need a birth certificate to obtain a license, it's just a commonly used form of ID|||There is no difference. My daughter who was born in Wyoming where they use a central registry was issued a temporary "Birth Certificate" at birth by the hospital that said "Not Valid for Identification purposes - Temporary Only" then we received her "Certificate of Live Birth" in the mail about 3 weeks later. Oh, and she is in her 20's now. So, my guess is that all states that use a central registry use "Certificates of Live Birth".|||There is NO difference. My own original birth certificate from the state of Kansas in 1960 is a certificate of live birth. My grandparents - who were both born at home instead of in a hospital - were issued "delayed certificates of birth."

What President Obama was issued from the state of Hawaii was all that is required to prove his birth. Those who think otherwise are mislead or delusional.|||Here in Oklahoma a birth certificate has all of the vital statistics such as doctors name, babys weight at birth, length at birth, mother and fathers names, time of birth, etc. the certificate of live birth just means someone looked at you and said yeah you're alive. In Oklahoma, Obama could not get a drivers license with the certificate of live birth he submitted.|||They are the same thing. My original birth certificate is called a certificate of live birth.|||There isn't. Legally, they are the same thing. You want an ID, driver's license, or passport, that will work.|||The long form birth certificate is much harder to forge and so are more valued as a 'true' document. I am not as concerned about the Obama's birth certificate as I am that he has blocked all access to his college and school records back to kindergarten.

U.S. officials asked for proof of his birth etc when he was attending college as a 'foreign student' where he was receiving funds from the US Gov as a foreign student and these records have been blocked also. Now if he attended college as a foreign student then how can he be a natural born U.S. citizen eligible to run for the Presidency??

I don't believe the truth will come out about Obama's birth until years after his presidency. It would just open to big a can of worms to handle. So it is all kind of moot to me. I do not believe he was born a natural citizen and think it was unfair that McCain had to 'prove' he was a natural born citizen and there were hearings in Congress over it - but Obama never did.|||The Birth Certificate is issues when the child is born at a hospital. A certificate of live birth is given out in a case where there was a home birth. Otherwise they are the same.

How to access ORIGINAL birth certificate from Maryland 1959?

When my father was a teenager, he discovered that the man he grew up calling "dad" was not his biological father. He discovered this when he came across his original birth certificate, who named a different man as his father. Shocked, he confronted his mother who destroyed that original birth certificate.

He was then legally "adopted" by the man his mother was married to and that he grew up calling "Dad", so his birth certificate now has this man's name listed as the father. My grandmother will not, under any circumstances, even acknowledge this event ever happened, even when my father was in the hospital and the surgeons were asking for family medical history.

For this reason, and for genealogical reasons, I would like to know who my father's biological father is, named on the original birth certificate. Although my father saw it when he was a teenager, he does not recall the name listed. I want to know if there is any way that I can get the information included on the ORIGINAL birth certificate of my father. I am aware I can easily get a copy of his current birth certificate, but I need the original, unaltered one. Any help is greatly appreciated.|||Many states are relaxing their laws on sealed adoption records. Some are unsealing them as a matter of course after a number of years have passed others require a consent form to be on file. So depending on what state the adoption took place in, you may be able to just request the records and send payment for the copies, others you may have to do a bit more to acquire the records but you can rest assured that the records were not intentionally destroyed by the state.

Go here to see how your state handles adoption records:

http://www.childwelfare.gov/systemwide/l鈥?/a>|||You may be able to locate a copy of the original by contacting the court clerk where he was living at the time of the adoption. Usually adoption records before about 1965 were sealed and are difficult do have opened. Your father might petition the court of jurisdiction requesting that the records be opened.

I have had little success getting adoptions records opened for anyone except the person who was adopted.|||There may be a copy in the county clerk's office, or in the state vital records department. It may be sealed. His mother could not have marched into the county office and destroyed the original; what people have at home is a notarized copy of the original. Call the county courthouse and ask. They may have done something with the original when the adoption was final, either destroyed it or sealed it.|||I think you should hire the services of any online agency that is working for birth certificate related issues,as these agencies has direct connection to every city county offices and have access to all records. These agencies take there fees and provide their services even at your home step regardless where you reside. So as per my suggestion it is the only and best way. However i can suggest you an agency, you can apply through this one.Hope you will get resolved your problem.Good luck.

What type of Birth Certificate do you need to cross into Canada?

I am planning on going across the USA border into British Columbia by car in a few weeks, but I'm not sure what type of birth certificates will be accepted. I know that they aren't requiring passports until June if you have a drivers license and a birth certificate, but can this birth certificate be any type, an original from birth at a hospital, or does it have to be a certified birth certificate? Thanks.|||It needs to be the original or a certified copy you obtained from the govt office. it cannot be just a copy machine copy. Also it cannot be that keepsake" birth certificate with foot prints that is given to parents at the hospital...it must be the official govt produced birth certificate.|||One that is issued from the provincial government of your birth place.|||As far as I know there is only one type of birth certificate, the type from your state registrars office. If you have that then you will have no problem crossing into Canada by land at this point in time.

Death certificates are also vital records. vitalrec.com has contact information for each state (link below). The date may not be required to look up a death certificate record.

To answer your question, check out http://www.vitalrec.com/deathrecords/#Li鈥?/a> It has a list of Internet resources to obtain death certificates online. Same thing with birth certificates. Example resources include vitalchek.com or ancestry.com, which have online order forms and payment checkout.|||You don't indicate which country you live in. IF you live in the US. the social security death index should have the date of your friend's death.

As for birth certificates, they are NOT accessible online, since they are the best way for identity theft. If you have accurate information, to prove you are you, it might be possible to order a copy. This is usually limited to an adult, or if you are a minor, the parent.|||You didn't mention the state in case you are in the U. S. Texas has a website you can order a birth certificate on line or if you are an immediate family member (mother, father, brother, sister) you can order a birth certificate within 75 years after a person's birth. After 75 years anyone can order a birth certificate on someone

http://www.texasonline.state.tx.us/tolap鈥?/a>|||Everyone should have a copy of their birth certificate. It sometimes becomes required that you produce a copy for various reasons throughout your life, and getting one can sometimes take days or even weeks. Having a copy already can serve you well.

That said, if you are in the US, every state has a vital records office (what they actually call it varies). That is where you order a copy of your birth certificate. Just go to the state web site of your birth, and most will have the place to get the birth certificate. Some even have this link on the front page. Most states also have the form you have to fill out available online.

But the requestor would either have to be you or your parents/legal guardian if you are a minor. If the names match (either your name or your parents name) then usually it can just be mailed.

Based on some of your other questions, it seems that you are likely a minor. Some states require that a parent or legal guardian make the request for a minor child - there are reasons beyond legal reasons for this. So it is likely that you would have to get your parents to request this for you.

Watch out for those online places that will get your birth certificate for you for a fee. They aren't doing anything more than you can do for yourself. In fact, you might end up doing more work giving them the information instead of just filling out the request yourself.

But everyone should have a copy of their birth certificate.|||You have to order your birth certificate from the state you were born in or possibly from the county you were born.
