Birth certificates (Certificates of Live Birth and Certifications of Live Birth) and Certificates of Hawaiian Birth are the primary documents used to determine native Hawaiian qualification.



The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands accepts both Certificates of Live Birth (original birth certificate) and Certifications of Live Birth because they are official government records documenting an individual's birth. The Certificate of Live Birth generally has more information which is useful for genealogical purposes as compared to the Certification of Live Birth which is a computer-generated printout that provides specific details of a person's birth. Although original birth certificates (Certificates of Live Birth) are preferred for their greater detail, the State Department of Health (DOH) no longer issues Certificates of Live Birth. When a request is made for a copy of a birth certificate, the DOH issues a Certification of Live Birth.

According to this wording on this official State Government of Hawaii web page, the term "birth certificate" is an "umbrella" term covering both Certificates of Live Birth and Certifications of Live Birth. They are not the same thing, but both are Birth Certificates. The Certification of Live Birth is just as valid as the Certificate of Live Birth, is just as much a Birth Certificate, and is considered prima facie evidence of Hawaiian birth for all legal purposes (as clearly stated on the bottom of the form), not only the Hawaiian Home Lands program.

Hawaii, didn't started calling the Certificate of Live Birth, Birth Certificates until the 1980's. Obama was born before then, so obviously his "Birth Certificate" will read Certificate of Live Birth. Is the same thing, is just a matter of names.



Hawaii became official state of the US in 1959. Obama was born in 1961, they hadn't made all the necessary changes yet.

Why would he show you anything? He's already proven he's a legitimate citizen. Besides, there is no document he could provide that would satisfy the birthers.

A certificate of live birth just means that the child wasn't stilborn. My birth certificate, my husband's and my son's all say "Certificate of Live Birth" and we were all born in Ohio. The hospitals where we were born are listed along with the attending physician's name and signature.
