What can someone do with a birth certificate that's not theirs?

so, someone i know has lost the original copy of their birth certificate, issued by the hospital.

now, the whereabouts of the original copy of the birth certificate is unknown... but if someone picks it up, what can they do with it?

will they be able to use it for identity theft, like getting another social security card, or another passport, anything like that, that would enable them to "pose" as the person on the birth certificate?

so, this is like the worst case scenario.

thanks for reading/answering.|||Many people lose or misplace their birth certificates.

Birth certificates are issued by the nearest Vital Statistics Office. People can obtain birth certificates for a fee whenever they need one.

One would need a lot more in the way of a birth certificate to obtain a social security card or passport.

Today Every form of identification needs other forms of identification to be valid.

added: how in the world are you going to 'pose' as another person based on a birth certificate alone?

certainly you need other ID in order to get a passport or a social security card.|||They can create a new ID. Yes this is a bad scenario.*
