I need to obtain a passport, but I must produce a birth certificate first, and my birth certificate has been lost for years. What identification can I use to get a birth certificate? Is there a website for information?
Birth cert is on file in county in which you were born. They need to see drivers lic and might also ask for maiden names.
Your birth certificate is probably on file at the county office of whereever you were born. Your best bet is to look them up in the phonebook and try to reach them by telephone. Ask their hours of operation, what id you should bring with you, the cost and whether or not you'll be able to pick up the document the same day. If you were born in a large city, this information can probably be found at the city's website. What identification can I use to get a birth certificate? Is there a website for information?
If you are a UK citizen and the birth certificate you are asking for is in your own name (which in this case it is) then you don't need any identification.
Simply click on this link

call the capital in your state and ask them
SOme states you can apply for one on line if you have a credit card to pay for same.
Without knowing your state I dont know if it is an option.
I doubt that there is a need for proof to obtain it other than answering the questions that they ask on the form.
I think that it would be quite easy and you can even have them expedite it.
When you take the stuff to get your passport, you have to send in the originals of it so you might consider getting two (the cost is usually less than $20.00. Be sure to check with the passport people to see what kind of birth certificate you need. they have certified copies and some other type that is cheaper
aslo
be sure you have your ss card for the passport too.
I got my picture taken at walgreens for the passport and got it done in 15 hours.
