I need to apply for a fast track passport this week.
However I have lost my birth certificate, and the Passport office have said I need it. How can I get an official replacement birth certificate? And can it be done on the same day, as I urgently need to apply for this new passport.
Please help, I am very stressed. How can I replace my birth certificate?
You can order online if you live in England %26amp; Wales:
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Diol1/DoItOn鈥?/a>
Check your local Council's website %26amp; see where their Registrar is based, or ask your mother where your birth was registered - have you checked with your mother to see if she has a copy of your birth cert (you need the long version)?
If you are in the state where you were born, you can usually go to the local health department and get one from their office of vital statistics. See my source links for more specific info for each state. Vitalchek will allow you to do the transaction fast if you are out of state from where you were born.
If you are not in the state where you were born, expect a 2 or 3 day turnaround for processing. You obviously can't fax a BC since its printed on paper that can't be duplicated and it also requires a raised seal. The individual states have always been responsible for the births in their own jurisdiction so there is no nationwide repository for birth certificates. How can I replace my birth certificate?
Local Registry Office, preferably from the town you were born in.
Applications are dealt with same day if you start early and are willing to wait. How can I replace my birth certificate?
