How easy is it to change a birth certificate issued in Hawaii?

Thomas Beattie (the pregnant man) managed to have his birth certificate changed. Can a birth certificate really be changed? Isn't it just amended with the amendment attached to the original?|||It depends on the state and the reason. I believe Hawaii actually changes the birth certificate, although I wouldn't swear by that. Other states - California, for instance - simply issue a document that's more or less stapled to the original.|||Ask the President Elect.|||Obviously it is possible. And I believe that when individuals go through reassignment surgery and become the opposite sex officially they are then able to change their gender on their birth certificate to reflect this change.
